This November 5th

What a brilliant day! Google “this november 5th”

(the above has nothing to do with Vermont Law and is important in my own opinion solely.  Vermont Law could care less.)

Law school has been tough - someone a couple of posts back mentioned average -shooting for average maybe… and that’s how I feel.  And to be perfectly honest, I’m stoked about average grades right now.  Our Dean’s Fellows just counselled us on internships and whatever, … its basically hopeless to get something paid they say, but I’m shooting for a certain region of the country and a certain organization, so um, I’m taking what I can get.   Average grades are part of the enigma that law school presents - you question your worth - “Am I really a C student?”  Have I earned this grade by my inexperience or by my work ethic?

Either way, I’m learning that its absolutely critical to keep a positive attitude, to craft enthusiasm about every aspect of the experience.  The pace and trauma of law school doesn’t allow negativity to thrive.  I can’t imagine life if I contemplated every dramatic scenario that could befall me here.

So I’m excited about C’s… I’m anxious to get my practice exam back from my contracts professor today, even though he announced that we should all be grateful for our D’s and F’s because that’s most of the class’ grade.  I’m excited that I got up at 4:30am today to rip out the rest of my first draft of my final legal memo… although I need a nap…

I’m practicing cultivating enthusiasm by looking at my future goals… not by focusing on the reality of the present.  I’m getting better and better every day and in every way at cramming more productivity into my life.

Sanity is not an option now.  Sane people …. nevermind.  I’ve got to get that nap and start knocking out the next legal memo and the next 60+ pages of reading for tomorrow.  Plus I need to update my resume so I can start applying to internships.  Its insanity.

 And we love it here.
