Warning: cheese ahead.

There are some days when I feel so unbelievably frustrated with school and classes and the law in general, that I want to scream.
And then there are those days that remind me why I’m here. These days remind me that there’s no where else in the world I’d rather be, and reassure me that deciding [...]

I <3 flash cards…

So I’ve never been big on study aids before, mostly because I’m stubborn. I’ve always had this idea in my head that I should be able to learn anything from a book. That is to say, if it’s written down somewhere, especially in a book that I have to buy for a class, there’s no [...]

Monday afternoon list.

This entry is going to be a list of sorts.
1. I went to the VLS Takings Conference on Friday, and was thoroughly impressed. As any good event should do, it explained a lot to me and left me with a lot to think about. For one, how do we assess water regulations in light of [...]

Much needed October themed relaxation!

Finally! The last two weeks have been so so so SO busy, and I finally feel like I’m caught up, both academically and personally.
And just in time too!
Oktoberfest is here! Obviously, as this is my first year in law school, and necessarily my first year at Vermont Law, I have no idea what to expect [...]

Go your own way…

This week has been interesting in terms of figuring out whether I want to talk to other people about where I am with my schoolwork. We have two midterms next week, and it seems a natural place for people to want to take a minute and evaluate where they are in comparison to other people. [...]

Of procrastination and open memos…

Fall break has come and gone. It’s time to hunker down until finals are over. Naturally, I found myself indulging in a new form of procrastination as I sat down to start working on my open memo. First, I should back up a step. An open memo is essentially a document written by me, a [...]

The Joys of Fall.

I took three years off between undergrad and law school. I was not prepared for the shocking revelation that there is no such thing as fall break in the real world.Consequently, my foray into the real world caused me to forget how much I love fall break. Actually, I forgot how much I love fall, [...]

A simple word on study groups

This week’s post is going to be simple because I’m insanely busy, and I’m insanely tired.
So, let’s get down to business. I highly recommend study groups. I went to my first study session Wednesday of this week, and I’m wondering why I didn’t do it sooner. A group of students from my Civ. Pro class [...]

Expectations

This week I sat in on a focus group intended to study, among other things, why first year students chose to come to Vermont Law School. It was a productive session, and it did made me think about why I’d come to VLS. But more than that, it made me take stock of my time here to see if what I’d gotten so far was what I expected.

I suppose the short answer would be yes…

Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Well, I’ve been here a month and week four of law school pulled no punches.

The intensity this week seemed to have increased tenfold. For one, we’re getting to the point in all of our classes where we’ve covered enough material to start making bigger picture analyses. This is far easier in theory than in practice, because I’ve discovered that (particularly in relation to Civil Procedure), the courts leave big gaping holes that have yet to be filled in that make big picture analyses very difficult.
